that's like an old fashion phone line modem connect. On the package websites it says the free service offers 64 kbits/s. A scan is a-due pretty soon.īut uuh, about Your Freedom. (I would recommend using either Spybot Search and Destroy, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, or both.) Edited Jby xorangekiller You should probably do an anti-spyware scan after you remove that software. On a side note, from your original description of the software you are currently using, it does sound a little like you have spyware on your computer. Any other piece of web-enabled software that you need to configure to use a proxy should have a simple, documented procedure similar to the ones for Firefox and Internet Explorer. To configure Internet Explorer to use a proxy server go to Tools->Internet Options->Connections->LAN Settings, check "Use a proxy server for your LAN", click Advanced, and fill in the server name and port number for your SOCKS proxy server. To configure Firefox to use a proxy server go to Tools->Options->Advanced->Network->Settings, tick "Manual proxy configuration:" and fill in the server name and port number for your SOCKS proxy server. To get the proxy server just sign up for an account with Your Freedom they do a descent job of explaining what you need to know about that on their website. Wikipedia gives good explanations of both proxy and SOCKS. Are there any alternatives? A better software? Or something I can adjust myself in my network settings? my ISP has no limit, so to suddenly be a person with a monthly bandwidth budget is quite disturbing and unsettling. Plus I read somewhere it has a 3GB bandwidth limit for a month. I noticed online videos loading slowly and some websites as well. And also, though I can't verify this, but I think Hotspot Shield slows down my internet. Considering the amount of ads I get just because of this software I'm scared it might be forcing some spyware on me. ![]() Taking up a whole lot of space from the browser view. And the most unforgivable thing of all It puts in a banner ad at the top of ever single page. ![]() Plus it forces in a whole bunch of it's own ads into websites. For one thing I keep hearing that clicking sound I used to hear in IE whenever an Ad was appearing or refreshing. Its great having access to Hulu and Netflix again, but the software itself bugs me. Now I recently (earlier today) found out about this Hotspot Shield thing. Plus I wanna have access to Hulu and keep using the Netflix account I made on my last visit to the US. It still freaks the heck out of me when some IRC chat person suddenly asks me "How's the weather over there in ******?". ![]() Thanks for comments.I have for a long time wanted to be able to surf the web without all he regional restrictions. It's hard to carry out it in my case :-[ because there are many other factors, maybe i will try all cases. Be it their IPs, Netblocks or Ports, etc. I would suggest you grab the client, and see where it tries to connect - then block said access. ![]() Or even what type of vpn it is? PPTP, SSL? Then looking for other VPNs and possibly blocking them as they appear (which, if you can't apply a user policy punishment, it'll probably took a look on their website, doesn't seem to list where it connects to for the vpn. Often this becomes a policy issue that is solvable by tracking down the offender and applying said employment/student/user policy, or the punitive side of it.Īlso, considering you've found that "people" are using it, if you found it via some sort of logs, you should be able to find where they're connecting to and blocking it. There's a fairly unlimited number of proxy/VPN services around, and nothing stops someone from simply building their own (from a rented server, or sometimes from their home.)Ĭonsidering you've found that "people" are using it, I assume they're using it to bypass some kind(s) of content filters you have set up. but i prefer the first that if you block that one, they'll just use another. Or you can install symantec endpoint protection and block the hotspotshield app using hash fingerprints. My LAN: ADSL Router - pfsense - all ports except those that are needed by your network like 80 or 445. I can prevent user access to xxx web by blacklist template and some specified websites but if user use hotspotshield, they can bypass those filters. This week i am rather busy, so i don't track topic continuously.
